August Fun Facts:
August 3rd is National Watermelon Day
August 10th is National S’mores Day
August 13th is International Left-Handers Day
August is named after the Roman Emperor, Augustus Caesar.
In the early Roman calendar, August only had 29 days. Augustus added two more days to it to make August equal to the 31 days in July (named after Julius Caesar).
August 11th marks the end of the Dog Days of Summer (which started on July 3rd).
The viewing of the Perseid meteor shower peaks in mid-August.
